OMD Australia has announced the promotion of Katy Eng to national director of OMD Diverse. OMD Diverse is a specialist business unit dedicated to reaching and engaging with culturally and linguistically diverse people, the LGBTQI community, people living with vision or hearing impairments, and First Nations communities. OMD Diverse works with a number of clients including McDonald’s, Telstra, Coles, NSW Government, Victorian Government and Estée Lauder Companies.
Launched in 2014, OMD Diverse recognises the nuances surrounding the media consumption and habits of multicultural audiences including their attitudes, beliefs and behaviours. They lead multicultural strategy, planning and buying, as well as language translation, creative and production services across radio, audio visual, advertorial, events and influencer marketing.
Eng has been with the company for nine years, most recently as OMD Create’s director of content marketing. She will continue in this role alongside broadening her remit to include multicultural media solutions and leading the OMD Diverse team nationally. Eng is further tasked with driving new business, client/agency education and to realise OMD’s Diversity and Inclusion charter through initiatives and client solutions.
Eng said of her promotion: “I first called Australia home 10 years ago, joining six million other Australians who were born overseas, so I understand first-hand how diverse and special this country is. 20% of Australians speak a language other than English at home and importantly, we are home to the world’s oldest continuous culture. I believe we have a real duty to navigate our agency and clients through the nuances of culture, tradition and language to make each and every Australian feel seen, heard and understood.”
Thomas Hutley, national head of Create, OMD Australia added: “Over the past 12 months, Katy has taken an active role in driving agency and client education on our Diverse product and the importance of engaging these key target audiences in a relevant and authentic way. This has coincided with a period of rapid growth for OMD Diverse and is testament to Katy’s dedication, passion and client service. I have no doubt we can be supporting more clients in driving the diversity and inclusion agenda and I look forward to seeing Katy lead this across OMD nationally.”
Katy Eng commenced the new role in August and continues to report into Thomas Hutley.
