Nine Entertainment (Nine) has released a comprehensive Action Plan to accelerate and measure its cultural transformation following a thorough review conducted by independent workplace consultancy, Intersection.
Endorsed by Nine’s Board, the Action Plan outlines a roadmap for embedding 22 key recommendations across the organisation. It focuses on four priority areas: People and Culture, Leadership, Policy, Procedures, and Governance, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The plan aims to create lasting change and elevate Nine’s workplace culture.
Since the full release of the Intersection Report in October, Nine has made significant progress, with over 60% of the recommendations either completed or underway. In addition, the company has committed to two further initiatives: transitioning to a new, holistic Employee Wellbeing Provider and launching a leadership development program that includes one-on-one coaching for 200 of Nine’s leaders.
As part of its commitment to transparency and accountability, Nine has announced plans to conduct a cultural pulse check in two years—one year ahead of schedule—to assess progress and refine its approach if needed. A more comprehensive review will follow in three years, in line with Intersection’s recommendations.
To ensure cultural transformation starts at the top, Nine will link senior leadership remuneration and incentives to specific cultural metrics and outcomes.
Matt Stanton, Nine’s acting CEO, highlighted the significance of the Action Plan within the company’s broader strategic vision, Nine2028.
“The Action Plan is a critical component of Nine2028, which accelerates both our business and culture transformation. Driven by the Board and management team, this reflects our collective commitment to building a workplace we can all take pride in. The progress we’ve made in just six weeks underscores our determination to act swiftly and effectively,” said Stanton.
He added that Nine’s ambitions extend beyond addressing its internal cultural issues, pointing to a broader industry-wide responsibility:
“The media industry cannot ignore the prevalence of unacceptable behaviour. As the largest employer in this sector, Nine is uniquely positioned to lead the cultural shift needed to create a safe, respectful, and thriving industry. At the appropriate time, we hope to collaborate with our peers to drive meaningful change.”
Nine management will regularly report progress on the Action Plan to the Board. The full Action Plan is available here.
