Mediaweek TV Guide – 14-15 May 2016

Mediaweek’s viewing picks to get you through the weekend. Suggestions by Andrew Mercado (AM) and Dan Barrett (DB).

SATURDAY
Have You Been Paying Attention – 9.30pm on Eleven
Monday is too crowded a night to remember to watch this hilarious panel show. Luckily, Ten repeats it Fridays after The Graham Norton Show and there’s also this encore on Eleven. It’s worth searching out no matter when you can find time to watch it.

ABBA In Concert – 10pm on SBS
After finding out who comes through the Second Semifinal to compete against Australia’s Dami Im on Sunday, stick around for some more Eurovision themed programming. This special, featuring the Swedish group who won the song contest in 1974, was filmed at London’s Wembley Arena in 1979 and should feature all their best loved hits.  (AM)

SUNDAY
Eurvovision – 5am on SBS
Get up early or set the IQ – either way you should not miss a moment of this incredible worldwide event. Even if you find the music cheesy, there is always Justin Timberlake at half time as well as salivating at the technical aspects and design which is as good as it gets, year after year. Of course there is also that audience that prefers to watch the 7.30pm repeat at night for an evening event but come on – tape that early telecast and play it back for a daytime party. Go Dami Im, you’ve already done us proud!  (AM)

Real Housewives of Melbourne: Reunion – 8.30pm on Arena
Foxtel very wisely did not air the Housewives last week up against the Logies but now they are back for this last one-off special hosted by Alex Perry. After a fiery third season, it would appear that Lydia is well and truly in the firing line from all the ladies and I am expecting fireworks. Bring. It. On!  (AM)

Shark Tank – 9pm on Ten
What were Ten thinking starting this show last week up against the Logies? They quickly arranged for an encore screening last Monday and jettisoned CSI: Cyber in the process. That annoyed fans of CSI: Cyber who must be really pissed now to learn that the series has been axed after just two seasons. So they might as well check out Shark Tank instead because it’s Australian, easy viewing and doesn’t require that much of a commitment. (AM)

Fight Club – 9:30pm on One
Beyond just being an exceptionally good movie (if you’ve never seen it before and think it’s just a film about fighting, give it another look – there’s a lot more going on in this film), Fight Club has taken on an added layer of meta relevance over the past twelve months with both Mr Robot and The Leftovers using the Pixies song Where Is My Mind in direct reference to its use in this film. It’s yet to be fully determined if referencing the film like that broke the first rule of fight club. (DB)
