The Mediaweek Academy will host its seventh session, which will explore storytelling and presenting skills.
Global leadership and marketing consultant Rowena Millward will lead the session, featuring a Legend of the industry sharing their career development wisdom and a Superstar discussing their insights.
This month’s Mediaweek Academy Legend is Rose Herceg, president, Australia and New Zealand at WPP, with Superstar speaker Sam Geer, managing director at Initiative.
Herceg leads WPP’s business in Australia and New Zealand, supporting agency CEOs, promoting WPP’s collective capabilities and bringing together people and resources on behalf of clients.
Prior to becoming president of WPP in AUNZ, Herceg was chief strategy officer of WPP AUNZ. In this role, she led client-facing activity at the WPP level, helping to deliver the company’s integrated offer of communications and experience across its network of agencies.
Herceg spoke to Mediaweek about how she got her start in the media industry, the key to developing and maintaining storytelling skills and how important it is to have those skills.
MW: How did you get your start in your career?
RH: Mailroom at Ammirati Puris Lintas straight after uni. Loved that job. Things were easy when you only delivered mail.
MW: With an array of challenges and disruptions in the industry, from talent shortages to changes in the economy – how important is it to have storytelling and presenting skills?
RH: Speaking well is everything. It’s not what you have written down on some fancy chart. It’s how you say it. Words are poetry. They lift the soul. They win over your audience.
MW: What is the key to developing and maintaining storytelling and presenting skills?
RH: Practice. Practice. Practice.
MW: What are you looking forward to most as you join the Mediaweek Academy with Initiative’s Sam Geer and our new facilitator Rowena Millward?
RH: Hearing something new. Something that stays with me.
