The inaugural Mediaweek Academy is set for launch in July with industry expert Greg Graham leading the training.
The course framework – starting February 22, 2023* – is spread over 10 months and will feature a special blend of interactive elements, Q&A, regular lectures, a feedback loop, and a personalised action plan to implement back in your business after each session.
Industry Legends will also join the academy to provide their insights coupled with young Superstars in their specialist areas.
The academy will open with its first topic – Career Growth and Development – with John Steedman who will take to the stage as the first legend of the academy.
Steedman brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the event, drawing on his years at GroupM and WPP.
The retired adman pressed on the importance of training to the media industry: “Training is imperative to retaining, growing, encouraging, and motivating talent in an organisation. No matter how long one has been working, there’s always a huge appetite to learn and progress.
“There are two ‘P’s to success: people and product. Get those right and that third P – profit – is a given!” he added.
Rose Herceg, WPP president of Australia and New Zealand, will also take part in the series later in the year. “The day we stop learning is the day we stop dreaming of what’s possible,” she said.
“Being a part of this Academy in conversations with Greg, is one of the best ways to elevate our industry to its rightful place. A place of innovation and growth. Where the best, most lateral ideas can help our clients contribute to an economy and open the doorway to a seat at the most important tables,” Herceg added.
Author Oscar Trimboli said: “Listening is a skill, a strategy, and a practice —a way to balance how you communicate.
“Active listeners notice what’s said. Deep listeners explore what isn’t said,” Trimboli added.
Enthdegree’s Graham Webster, who will join the Pitching to Win panel in February 2023, said: “After almost half a century in the Advertising Industry, I look forward to sharing some learnings from participating in pitches, and now evaluating them. A successful pitch is a mixture of confidence and competence. You won’t win without both.”
“Learning on the job is only as good as the person you are learning from. The depth of experience involved in the Mediaweek Academy will fast track your learning,” Webster added.
Harris Farm Mag’s Julia Zaetta, who will take part in the Inspiring Creativity panel next year, said: “Get learning! Because whatever you can to give you a brilliant career, grab it with full-on gusto –it’s a sure-fire way to a fabulous life.
“And you know what? It might only mean three connected words that change the way you think forever. Or a question someone answers in an unexpected way. Or perhaps just a hint or two to set you in a whole new direction!
“But however you get it, there’s nothing better. And you’re in such amazing company with Legends and Superstars be prepared for stunning stuff – I can’t wait myself!” Zaetta added.
Additional Legends taking part include Mark Buckman of Accenture Song, Genelle Sharples of Telstra, News Corp’s Louise Barrett, Sunita Gloster from Gloster Advisory and Katie Rigg-Smith from Mindshare.
Graham said ahead of the Mediaweek Academy launch: “I’m very proud that every Legend I approached about being involved in the Mediaweek Academy immediately said yes, they wanted to help and support this new industry educational initiative.
“The depth of knowledge and experience of these Legends is truly outstanding and I know the scholars attending will find the Legend’s insights incredibly rewarding.
“It’s not often you get to hear from industry Legends of this calibre and for them to share their industry insights and knowledge.
“I can’t thank them enough, having the opportunity to engage in a conversation with the Legends about important career, industry skills, and educational topics is priceless. This unique experience and engagement with these Legends will ensure the Mediaweek Academy delivers true inspiration,” he added.
