Mediaweek’s Top 25 Media People 2017: TEN’s Stephen Tate

Media executives who made a difference in 2017

Our annual listing of 25 media executives who made a difference this year and are shaping how 2018 will look.

Stephen Tate, Head of entertainment and factual programs, TEN

“This is the best part of my year…I love doing I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here,” TEN’s Stephen Tate told Mediaweek earlier this year, speaking just after arriving in South Africa in preparation for season three of the series. Series four gets under way in a few weeks.

Tate had his passport stamped a lot in 2016 – he spent five months of the year away from home overseeing both I’m A Celebrity and later in the year Australian Survivor. Tate has worked for Ten on Celebrity since launch and he did the first reconnaissance visit to South Africa when it was being considered as a possible site.

This year more than ever the production team featured current and former Ten Network executives including David Mott, Tim Clucas and Alex Mavroidakis. Tate told Mediaweek: “It gives us a great deal of comfort as a network to know there is a shorthand between the key production individuals and us. We understand what each of us brings to the party and it works really well.
