After a brief period of being MIA from Sydneys airwaves, Southern Cross Austereo announced in November of 2021 that despite only being halfway through his two year contract, Lawrence Mooney would not be returning to Triple M. Not in breakfast, not in Sydney, and not anywhere else on the network.
Shortly after revealing the departure of Mooney, a late night statement came through from employment and media lawyer John Laxon, of Laxon Lex, confirming that he was acting for Lawrence Mooney against Southern Cross Austereo Services Pty Ltd.
Laxon said at the time: “My client has a contract which runs through to the end of next year, which SCA has brought to an end. The terms of that contract were drafted by SCA and were bargained for and agreed to by my client. He will hold SCA to those terms. All my client asks is that SCA honour the contract and observe the contractual arrangements which they put in place.”
In a seemingly final update, SCA have released another statement over the weekend, some five months after the initial story broke.
Lawrence Mooney finished up on the Triple M Sydney Breakfast show in November 2021.
Mr Mooney commenced proceedings in the NSW Supreme Court to dispute SCA’s decision to terminate his contract, which SCA defended.
SCA and Mr Mooney have agreed to resolve the issues between them and for the proceedings to be dismissed.
Mr Mooney and SCA will not be providing further comment.
Mooney’s next move is up in the air for now, however the sale of his Southern Highlands homestead for $4.8 million indicates that staying to work around Sydney is not a part of the plan.
Mooney is currently touring a live show, Beauty, and will be performing in Brisbane until May 8th before heading to Sydney from May 19th to perform at the Opera House.
