His I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here Australia 2023 journey may be over but Nick ‘Honeybadger’ Cummins’ experience really cemented what was important to him.
For the former 2018 Bachelor, the last five years has given him not only a new perspective, but a family unit he had been “chasing”.
“I’ve been chasing [a family of his own] for a good few years now,” Cummins revealed during an interview with Mediaweek following his elimination.
“It’s amazing what that’ll do for you. It really just puts you on your path a lot quicker instead of zigzagging and stuffing around and trying to find meaning elsewhere.”
Nick Cummins talks about how fatherhood has changed him
Back in October, the former Wallaby announced the safe arrival of his son Billy George Cummins with his partner Alex, a life-event which showed him that he was “growing up”.
“Gee, when he was first here, you get this massive responsibility that hits you and you have to shake yourself,” he admitted. “Now I have to grow up. There are things that are much more important than me. You’re excited because it frees your mind and you live a life of service. I’m just super pumped and I’m growing up.”
Cummins’ experience in the jungle was enlightening, showing him where to “focus” his energy.
“[It showed me] where I want to focus my energies more on and where I want my family to go,” he said. “In both direction in life, but also travel. Finding joy is more in line with having fun and in a world that moves so quick, and it’s it’s pretty fearful. I just, want to focus on having the best relationship with my kids and my partner. So yeah, it was really more about this. The feelings that you get for your partner and loved ones. It reinforces that so strongly.”
Nick Cummins on his son being in the public eye
When asked what he would tell Billy about his experience in the public eye, Cummins admitted that “privacy is the goal”.
“I don’t know if I’ll encourage him to get into the public eye,” he said. “I think privacy is the new goal. Now going forward, we’ll probably get off grid a little bit and just try and get him to learn some of the really important things like family and connecting to the earth and just feeling whole within yourself.
“I think that’s probably the issue with today’s world. Everyone is sort of seeking validation elsewhere instead of putting their feet in the dirt and just feeling how important they are already.”
Nick Cummins on his I’m a Celeb experience
For Nick, it was the camp mates that made his experience.
“I think they’ve [10] done so well,” he said. “I think the people that are brought in have really added value and and of course that’s going to relate to viewership.
“That’s what you want to see. it’s always funny like that, because the media and things often can only show one side and it’s refreshing to see that people are multi dimensional and they do have so many aspects that they can offer by bringing positive energy to the world and this is a good way format to express that.”
