Australian satirist Dan Ilić has joined the Fusion, a US network focused on millennial viewers, as its new executive producer for comedy.
Fusion is best known for its cable station which broadcasts TV shows that include Rude Tube, The Chris Gethard Show, Strange Medicine, and The Cannabusiness Report, but has also been investing in its digital output to better connect with its youth audience.
In his new role, Ilić will lead the comedy video pod in Los Angeles, working with Fusion head of comedy Bryan Carmel.
Ilić told Mediaweek “Fusion is really exciting, they’re at the forefront of journalism in digital media, whereas in Australia we’re at the forefront of CD-ROM.”
For Ilić, who is passionate about political satire, the opportunity to work in the US comes at the right time with the US presidential election in November. Ilić starts next week in LA, just days before the US Republican Convention starts.
“It’s great to be going over at this time,” Ilić explained. “A lot of people are threatening to leave the US if Trump becomes president. Not me. I’m excited about collaborating with my team at Fusion to create satirical comedy video that will delight Fusion’s audience across their digital platforms but also TV.”
This isn’t the first US role for Ilić who worked for Al Jazeera’s digital unit AJ+ in the first half of 2015.
