Box Office: Shang-Chi continues to dominate quiet Australian box office

• Overall it was a dead even week for the Australian box office with an under 1% change on last week

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings continues to dominate the Australian box office after spending a fourth consecutive week at #1. The film has now made a total of $6,915,675 since its release as there continues to be a big gap between the Marvel film and the rest of the field.

No new releases made it in the top five this week but there was still movement with Ainbo: Amazon Princess cracking the top five in its second week and Jungle Cruise rejoining after its ninth week of release.

The two films to drop out of the top five were The Suicide Squad (eight weeks, $5,41m) and Respect (six weeks, $1.45m).

Overall it was a dead even week for the Australian box office with an under 1% change on last weeks total after making $2,662,567.

#1 Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings $893,670

In its fourth week of release, the 25th film in the MCU has made an average of $3,505 for 255 screens. This was the most screened film in the country this weekend and the second-highest average behind only Love Story which ran on a megre seven screens.

#2 Free Guy $494,254

Free Guy continues to stay around the top of the Australian box office despite this being the seventh week of the film’s release. This past weekend it produced an average of $2,701 on 183 screens and its total now sits at $6.54m.

#3 Paw Patrol: The Movie $288,997

The first feature film of the beloved children’s program Paw Patrol is in the top five for the second week in a row after averaging $1,571 on 184 screens. The film has now made a total of $1.41m

#4 Ainbo: Amazon Princess  $177,494

The co-production from Peru, the Netherlands and the United States has cracked the top five in its second week of release after averaging $1,109 on 160 screens.

#5 Jungle Cruise $113,945

It didn’t take much for Jungle Cruise to get back in the top five after averaging only $966 on 118 screens in its ninth week of release.
