BBC Worldwide signs YouTubers Joe and Caspar, Top Gear team makes first program

BBC Worldwide has struck a deal with world-famous online talent Joe Sugg and Caspar Lee. This will be Joe and Caspar’s first joint long-form project and BBC Worldwide’s first collaboration with YouTubers for an exclusive commission.

BBC Worldwide’s new project with Joe Sugg and Caspar Lee is titled Joe & Caspar Hit the Road and will be a one-off 75-minute-plus show, available for fans to purchase in Australia on iTunes and Google play from 23rd November, with a pre-order date of 2nd September.

Made by the production team behind BBC Worldwide’s Top Gear special commissions, Joe & Caspar Hit the Road will see Joe Sugg and Caspar Lee hit the road on an epic European adventure as Joe challenges his flatmate to survive the trip using only the money they can earn each day. The two-some – who have over 10 million YouTube subscribers and over a billion total video views between them – will be offering themselves up for employment in a series of unusual tasks such as learning to be gondoliers in Venice, working as deckhands on a super yacht, and performing on Barcelona’s famous Las Ramblas.

Joe & Caspar Hit The Road will be exec produced by Paul Hembury (Top Gear The Perfect Road Trip I and II) alongside Dominic Smales and Claire McArdle of Gleam Futures, and directed by Brian Klein (Top Gear) for BBC Worldwide. Joe Sugg and Caspar Lee will act as producers for production partner Raucous Productions.

Louisa Bayles, head of digital sales, BBC Worldwide ANZ, said: “Joe and Caspar have a huge international following online and we’re thrilled to be able to bring their first long-form content to Australian fans first on digital, which is how it should be.”

Dominic Smales, founder of Gleam Futures, says: “I am absolutely delighted to see Joe and Caspar taking this significant step forward in their careers and we are so pleased to be partnering with BBC Worldwide to make it happen. This is a significant stake in the ground for the evolution of content in this space.”

Paul Hembury, executive producer, says: “We are thrilled to be working with Joe and Casper and this exclusive brand-new full-length program will be a must have for their fans.”

Joe & Caspar Hit the Road is due to be released on iTunes and Google play on 23rd November and is available to pre-order from 2nd September 2015.
