The fifth annual UnLtd: Big Splash regatta has raised a record breaking $126,000 for children at risk with Seven West Media taking line honours.
On Friday 8 April ten teams from across adland took to the waters on Elliott 7 boats to race around Sydney Harbour. Industry crews were supported by a professional sailor and provided plenty of action for crowds on the Yahoo spectator boat.
Despite the stormy forecast, the sun came out for the day and 12 knot winds provided the perfect conditions. A broken sail didn’t stop IAS from securing third place whilst Yahoo inched out in front in second and Seven West Media ultimately took home the trophy for the second year in a row.
In total $126,000 was raised, the highest amount in the event’s five-year history. All proceeds will go toward UnLtd’s charity partners that help children and young Australians at risk.
Chris Freel, CEO of UnLtd comments: “A big thanks to everyone who braved the elements to join us and to our sponsors Yahoo for making this year’s Big Splash possible. It was a brilliant day on the water with plenty of action that kept us all entertained. Thank you to everyone for helping raise a massive $126,000 that will make a huge difference for children at risk.”
Paul Sigaloff, VP, head of APAC of Yahoo: “The Big Splash always brings out the very best – team bonding, new skills and of course, a bit of friendly competition. But it’s important that amongst all the fun we pause and reflect on the purpose behind this great event – giving back to those who need it most.
“Yahoo has long been a proud supporter of UnLtd because of the incredible work they do for their charity partners. I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact they make on the lives of so many young Aussie kids and that’s enabled through our industry combining our forces for good. Here’s to many more fundraising events for the kids and us playing our small part in creating waves of change.”
The next industry-wide UnLtd event is the Big Game e-sports tournament that kicks off on May 5.
