MediaWorks celebrates five wins at the 2017 NZ TV Awards

Newshub took out Best News Coverage for coverage of the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake

MediaWorks is celebrating five wins at the 2017 New Zealand Television Awards, including Best News Coverage, Te Māngai Pāho Best Māori Programme and Best Comedy.

At last night’s awards ceremony, the Newshub team took out Best News Coverage for their coverage of the Kaikoura earthquake in 2016.

Best Presenter: News and Current Affairs was awarded to Mike McRoberts (pictured). McRoberts has been part of the MediaWorks family for 15 years, including 13 years presenting the 6pm bulletin.

McRoberts commented: “I’m just fresh back from reporting from inside Syria and this award makes me feel incredibly proud to present Newshub Live at 6pm. We’ve always had a culture of our anchors also being excellent journalists, and when I look at my colleagues Sam Hayes, Melissa Davies and Tom McRae, that tradition is set to continue for some time.”

Chief news officer Hal Crawford said: “It was great to see everyone come together for the NZ TV Awards again – it’s an opportunity to celebrate hard work and success across the industry. I’m incredibly proud of the Newshub team, and pleased that our passion and dedication have been recognised tonight.”

Chief content officer Andrew Szusterman said: “We’re so proud of all our finalists at this year’s TV Awards. Increasing the amount of locally made TV is the core of what Three is about and having Best Comedy and Best Māori Program  amongst our other wins, shows we’re pretty good at it. Congratulations to you all.”
