Taskmaster is set to unleash a new bunch of comedians for a second season, coming soon to 10 and 10 Play in 2024.
Tom Gleeson will once again star as the Taskmaster, with his trusty sidekick Tom Cashman returning as his devoted assistant. Each week the two Toms will set the comedians a range of ridiculous tasks designed to puzzle brains.
Australia’s brightest comedians will score the most points from the Taskmaster, while bewilderment and confusion will be rewarded with the fewest points. At the end of the series, the comedian with the most points will be crowned Taskmaster champion.
Season two will see Peter Helliar, Mel Buttle, Aaron Chen, Concetta Caristo and Rhys Nicholson risk their reputations on Australian TV’s most outrageous, laugh-out-loud comedy show.
Adapted from the hit UK format of the same name, Taskmaster rewards innovation, berates stupidity and promises countless laughs.
Taskmaster is produced for Network 10 by Avalon/Kevin & Co.
Earlier this year, Mediaweek spoke to executive producer, Sarah Thornton about finding the perfect cast.
Thornton said: “It was extremely rigorous. My first wishes were for Tom and Tom, and I feel incredibly privileged that we have them in the show, and I think the finished product is a testament to that being a good decision.
“I think you’ll see there’s a real breadth of the types of comedians, and we really tried to make sure that each of the comedians we chose are there for a clear purpose and bring a particular kind of comedy.”
The show will follow the same comedians for the entire season, allowing viewers to pick and choose their favourites and watch them progress throughout the show.
“We have our cast of five for 10 weeks, and we learned a lot about them that you wouldn’t normally learn on your average panel show,” Thornton said. “You get to know them, and you decide who you’re rooting for, you see their failures, you see their successes.
“And I think that that’s one of the brilliant things about this show – it’s one of the reasons I thought it would be great for Australia is that it gives you an insight into the panellists in a way that you don’t get anywhere else.”
